Have you noticed how technology, the economy and work culture of the people have changed and transformed how to get your job done? If you have been in the exact same place, doing the exact same things and haven’t noticed these changes, read below and update yourself with the latest workplace trends.

BYOD or “Bring Your Own Device”

More and more employees are now using their own mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads instead of computers and laptops issued by companies. This trend saves companies from equipment expenses but issues problems on how to secure company confidential information from leaking and how to keep employees off Facebook or Twitter.

Telecommuting

This trend allows workers to work in the comfort of their homes. More companies offer Telecommuting to save from office space expenses, to make up for salary increases that they can’t offer and to allow their employees more flexible schedules. The work culture of the people has changed. Before, we get motivated by promotions, raises and other accolades. Now, we want more freedom and more flexibility. According to AARP, “70 percent of workers want to continue to work, but they want to do it on their terms”.

Offices With More Open Spaces

Since fewer employees work in a physical office nowadays, companies are remodeling their floor plans and change the conventional walled work stations into wider communal areas where employees can gather for conference sessions and for brainstorming.

Social Networks and Texting

Email is going passé. According to Robin Richards, chairman and CEO of TweetMyJobs, "Email is quickly going the way of the fax machine,". Currently, employees communicate more through text messages and social networks and view email as a slow and inefficient way of communication.

Reverse Coaching

A new method of company coaching program had been established lately. It’s called reverse coaching where in younger employees coach older workers on how to use new software, social media and how to muster modern work skills.

Watch out for these latest workplace trends and be ready to face the changes you will likely encounter soon.
