Our brain is the keeper of all knowledge, experiences, memories and wisdom that we have gathered throughout our lives. Obviously, it is very important to maintain our brain in its optimum functional state for as long as we can. Below are 5 herbal teas that may help us achieve this.

Ginkgo Biloba Tea

Gingko Biloba is an herb which grows in the Zheijiang Region of China. It is one of the oldest teas in the world. Its history dates back to more than 200 million years. Gingko biloba tea is a very potent anti oxidant which helps promote good blow flow to the brain. It allows increased oxygen supply to the brain for better cell protection. It is known to improve short term memory by boosting the speed of nerve impulses.

Brahmi Tea

Brahmi is also known as Bacopa Monnieri and Water Hyssop. It is an aquatic plant that is abundant in the marshlands and muddy shores of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam and China. It has been used for around 3 centuries to improve memory and enhance learning. Brahmi tea contains phytochemicals that improve the ability of the brain to absorb and retain information. It also contains Polyphenol and Sulfhydryl that are good in combating oxidative stress damage and in inhibiting chemical activities in the brain that reduce mental functions. Brahmi Tea has also been used to decrease anxiety and treat epilepsy.

Gotu Kola Tea

Gotu Kola, or Indian Pennywort, is a popular vegetable in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Bangladesh that can also be taken as tea.

The gotu kola tea is believed to help maintain good neural activity and blood circulation in the brain, and promotes healthy membranes.

Rosemary Tea

Rosemary or Rosmarinus Officinalis, is an evergreen shrub found in various locales. It is a tangy and aromatic herb that has long been used to flavor all kinds of dishes.

Rosemary Tea is known to have a warming, balancing, revitalizing, regenerating and antiseptic effect on the body. In addition, it has been seen to have a stimulating effect on the central nervous system. It helps strengthen memory, mental clarity, awareness and concentration.

Rosemary contains a chemical called Carnosic Acid that repairs and prevents free radical damage in the brain. Studies had been conducted on the effects of Canosic Acid and there are some talks that eventually it will become an active ingredient in neurologic drugs and medications.

Sage Tea

Sage is a perennial shrub that naturally grows in areas of Europe particularly the Mediterranean. This herb is aromatic and it stimulates energy and warmth when taken. Sage is commonly used as a spice and an additive to dishes but it can also be taken as a beverage in the form of tea.

According to studies, Sage can help prolong the activity of Acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that facilitates the transmission of nerve signals in the brain. Cognitive impairment and memory loss will result with poor activity of acetylcholine. So sage can help impede mental degeneration.

Now, get your tea kettle working and start boosting your brain power!
